So, I've been talking a great deal recently about my character blog The Payne In The Blog and the character Morgana. I know what you all are thinking, “Oh god Elizabeth, just shut up already. I get it, she is funny and her boss is hot. Now get a life!”
To which I respond with tears and run into my bedroom slamming the door behind me. Once I have recovered I come out and explain it to you. I let you know that this is what goes on in an author’s brain as she or he is writing a book. Only, instead of keeping it pent up inside and throwing a lot of ideas for interesting scenes away (never to see the light of day because a book can only be so long), I put them out there for you to read.
The characters in my books become my life when I go to write their story. From what I have read from other authors it’s true of them too. You see, I have no life. It consists of raising a 2 year old boy, 3 year old boy and a husband who claims to be an adult but could easily pass for a 5 year old a lot. Just taking care of these males and trying not to lose my sanity in the process is enough to obsess about the characters in my head (and hangout on Facebook & Pinterest more than I should).
This character blog has helped me not only flesh out the story and characters even more, but opened my mind up to new ideas that I never would have come up with if I hadn't started it. One of those ideas is making the compilation of the blog posts and publishing it for free. I hadn't seen it done before. I’m sure it has been done by some author somewhere, but no one I have heard of. Plus, I can add some stuff to the book that isn't on the blog (more ideas rattling around in my head).
To the people out there who really want to get in an author’s brain, I have laid it all out here and in the character blog. It may be sad how obsessed I become but know that with this obsession authors think of some pretty amazing stuff. Take J.K. Rowling. She has admitted that the Harry Potter books are just a drop in the bucket of the world she created in her head. You, the reader, only got a small peek. Imagine if she wrote that book today and Harry started a blog or twitter account. Wow, that would be awesome. Someone go tell her to do that, seriously!
