I will start with my entry for BookBlogWriMo. It’s supposed to be about the history of my blog. This ties in to NaNoWriMo. I started this blog because I became an author. I basically did the opposite of what authors (at least indie authors) are supposed to do. I published my book and then sat around and twiddled my thumbs wondering why no one was buying it. Yeah, I was a genius!
A few how-to-get-your-book-out-there books later I realized I needed to get people to notice me, one way was a blog. I visited a few author’s blogs/websites and I really didn’t like what I saw. They were all “Buy my books!” and “Hey I am making an appearance here and there!” to which I thought, only their fans would be interested in. Since I had zero fans, that wouldn’t work for me. So, I decided to help other authors, like myself. I would write some blog posts about being an indie author, but also promote other books as well. Books that were on sale or if I read a book I liked, I would write a review. I have even done a few blog tours.
I’m the type of person where it’s about helping each other, not just helping myself. So, that’s my blog/website, there is a section about my books, but most of it is about other people.
Now on to NaNoWriMo...Well, due to having the flu this past week, things are getting off to an unusual start. I still haven’t finished a novella I am writing that I wanted done by now. So, since this challenge is really just about writing every day, I am finishing the book and including it as my writing for the day. I know it’s not technically writing a novel in a month, but I figured it would take me less than a week to finish the novella. Then once I hand it off to my editor (hopefully on Thursday) I can officially start on my new book: Why I Hate Valentine’s Day.
I am hoping my husband takes the kids out for an hour or two today so I can get some writing time in. Having a two year old and three year old makes it hard to sneak off and write, even on a Saturday when the husband is at home. What I really worry about is Monday, Wednesday & Friday when I have them all to myself. I am sure I will updating you all on how that goes – the good, the bad & the messy! Well, I better get off to writing the book!
I wish all the authors and blogs participating in these challenges much luck because sometimes that’s all we have ;)
