Before I get on the main topic, first things first: Do you like the new website design? I spent the last few days working on it. There is still some work to be done. I want to make the landing page a slide show, but that takes editing the code, which I am scared to do. I am trying to convince my husband to help me with that (he works in IT, but not with websites so he is hesitant).
Welcome Ella Emerson!
Hello everyone! Thank you for checking out this great interview with the awesome Ella Emerson. I think you will enjoy it!
Welcome Heather Dahlgren!
Hello everyone, it's been a while! This long absence is on me. I get an idea in my head and I run with it, and everything else gets ignored - like author interviews. But, never fear, I am back and doing a double whammy this week. Author's Heather Dahlgren and Ella Emerson have teamed up to write a book called Teacher (it's out now, so pick up your copy HERE).
In celebration of their release, I will be interviewing both. Today is Heather's turn and on Friday will be Ella's turn - so check that out.
I sort of lied with my last post. I am going to talk about myself again. I said I wouldn’t and here I am writing another post about me. You see, way back in July I entered a contest on Wattpad called So You Think You Can Write ( #sytycw15 ) by Harlequin – the publisher. I did it on a whim, using the start of a manuscript I began a year earlier but never got past the first few chapters. Figuring this would give the jumpstart I need to finish it.
The final book of Rules of Payne came out today, Rules of Payne 2. The release for the book compared to the first book is very laid back, and quite a calm day. Not because it happened to be like that, but by design.
A few weeks ago I realized that there was no way I could keep up with my weekly character blog Payne In the Blog and write books through the summer – with the little kiddies home from school. Since both my boys are under five years of age they require constant attention, so finding time to write is almost impossible during the day. Then once night comes around and they are safely tucked into bed, I am so exhausted, most nights I just end up passing out right after I tuck them in.
Basically for the past ten to fifteen years there has been a new women’s movement. I don’t mean that women have started to protest more or lobby the government in mass (maybe they have but I haven’t noticed a big shift), what I mean is the outing of female philosophy. Again, I don’t mean more females are studying philosophy at school, I mean how women view the world is FINALLY having an impact. People are taking notice.
What happens to an author after a big release day? They face plant a pillow for a while. But once an author is awake again and past the zombie phase, a rollercoaster of emotion hits the author. At least it did me. Suddenly nothing was happening. I don’t mean no one was buying my book but no release parties, intense promotional pushes, and everything involved with a book coming out.
I got my first review of The Payne In The Blog on Goodreads and it was two stars. Most authors wouldn’t announce that to the world, especially in a blog post on their website, but I think you have learned by now I have no shame. Surprisingly I am not angry about the review. Yes, for the first thirty seconds upon looking over the review I felt like someone had stabbed me in the heart, but I got over it rather quickly.
So, I've been talking a great deal recently about my character blog The Payne In The Blog and the character Morgana. I know what you all are thinking, “Oh god Elizabeth, just shut up already. I get it, she is funny and her boss is hot. Now get a life!”
BookBlogWriMo: Combining Day 25: How do I deal with book hangovers & Day 26: Cheating on books – TV & Movies.
BookBlogWriMo: Today’s challenge is book boyfriend material. Obviously it made me look back on the books I liked the most, see previous post to get an idea. I have noticed I like men with a vulnerability to them. If they start out tough and it’s crazy hard to crack their shell, I tend to not fall in love with them. Even the Hero Alex in Penny Reid’s Love Hacked announced his love for Sandra long before she admitted it to him or herself. He is the most ‘self-protective’ male I like, but the deep purity of his love for her gets me every time (I am in the process of rereading it).
BookBlogWriMo: No, you read the title right, I am skipping challenge Day 21 because it has to do with my first reviews. You may have noticed by now I hate looking at my ‘first’ anything. My first book, won’t ever see my eyes again. My first boyfriend – worst boyfriend ever – even he apologized to me years later when we ran into each other at a club admitting he had been terrible to me. First menstruation cycle, does any woman reminisce about that? Anyway, no firsts.
BookBlogWriMo: I missed another day, so I am combining again. Day 18 (favorite subgenres) and Day 19 (#WaitingOnWednesday – TBR Book). I will warn ahead of time for this entire post, it’s my birthday so I may go totally off track and write what I want to write about...because it’s my birthday!
BookBlogWriMo: So, I missed yesterday’s challenge. I took the day off, from just about everything (except being a mom – that would be impossible). Therefore I will combine yesterday’s challenge (least favorite blogging things) and today’s challenge (favorite book tropes).
BookBlogWriMo: Today’s challenge is my favorite blogging things. I guess it would have to be putting my thoughts out there. Sometimes I have an idea that’s bothering me and I want to write a little more than a Facebook rant, so I post it on my blog. It’s also nice to read other bloggers ideas or rants about what is bothering or exciting to them.
BookBlogWriMo: Today’s challenge is about my review process. I have decided to change this completely. Meaning I will no longer do reviews. I had decided a few months ago to do them, but realized that my schedule makes it very hard. With my writing, looking after the kiddos and all the other stuff that make up my life, I can’t promise people I will do a review of their book by a certain time.
I will still write reviews of books, but just as an everyday reader, not blogger.
BookBlogWriMo: Today’s challenge is advice for newbie bloggers. I really don’t think I am in a position to give bloggers advice since I am fairly new myself. The only advice I feel adequate in giving is to write about things you like. Have your blog be about your passion, your hobby, something that makes you happy. You will have stumbling blocks and try things that will cause you to face palm at a future point, but you have to learn somehow.
BookBlogWriMo: Today’s challenge is memes you meme. Again, I really don’t know too much about this. I am learning, from writing this post it has to do with inspiration from another post on another blog and it becomes a ‘thing’ that a bunch of bloggers write about. The only thing I did remotely close to that was when Robin William’s passed. I had a lot to say on the subject of depression and how it relates to comedy. How everyone was shocked someone who made people laugh could suffer terrible depression. Didn't surprise me at all, but I have spent a good chunk of my life around comedians. So, I wrote about it.
