Welcome Ella Emerson!
Hello everyone! Thank you for checking out this great interview with the awesome Ella Emerson. I think you will enjoy it!
As you have noticed this is the second Author Interview I have put out this week. The other was on Wednesday with Heather Dahlgren. Well, there is a reason for that. Heather and Ella have teamed up together to co-author a book that released this week called Teacher. So, I decided to do an interview for each. Here is the second half of that great pair: Ella Emerson...
EL: Having read I Am Atlas and thinking it’s awesome, how would you describe the book to the fools who haven’t picked it up yet?
EE: Well, I would explain they are indeed fools…haha, just kidding. It is an epic love story with an ending that you’ll never see coming. I like to shock my readers and wanted something that would really blow their minds.
EL: Your latest release is a collaboration with Heather Dahlgren, called Teacher. Will I like it and why?
EE: If you like hot, steamy romances with tons of sexy scenes then yes you will love it.
EL: I’m just going to put this out there. You know people. People you can talk to on a regular basis. What do you say to them when you see them for the third time?
EE: Hi, nice seeing you again, and again.
EL: If you could eat fudge all day what state would you eat it in?
EE: You’re going to hate me but I despise chocolate. But as for what state I would eat it in, definitely not the melted state, most likely fresh out of the fridge…haha. Okay fine, I’d eat them in Montana because everything is better there.
EL: You don’t like chocolate? (squints in suspicion) I have now lost faith in humanity.
EL: You also have several other books out there that I haven’t yet read. I’m sorry, I was doing laundry that day. Now that my laundry is done, describe your books so I know which to start first?
EE: All of my books are standalones. My first book I wrote is titled Sky Watcher, and it is about a 35 year old divorcee who gets a job on a chicken farm in Alabama and meets a very younger man. I love that story.
The Vanilla Bet is a mystery/romance which takes place between some college kids. Which has a bet, stalker, and some hot sex.
Freak Out was an experiment. I wrote it kind of as a joke, it is a romcom and it breaks the fourth wall over and over. Chelsea within the first few minutes of the story gets a romp in the broom closet courtesy of the office Freak. He then just disrupts her life, and she doesn’t know which way is up or down, but she finds herself liking it. It’s a fun story.
I have a few novellas which are in anthologies. And then of course I Am Atlas, which is Book One of the Playing God Series, which each book will need to be read in succession.
EL: What authors (living or dead) would you love to go clubbing with, maybe cop-a-feel on the dance floor? What authors (living or dead) would you take to a club only to throw a drink in their face?
EE: I would LOVE to go clubbing with Sophie Kinsella, we would have a rockin’ time. I would love love love to cop a feel all over BT Urrela. As for which authors I would want to throw a drink on, hmmm, Adolf Hitler wrote Mein Kampf, I’d throw a few drinks on him.
EL: Can you tell me about your current WIP (work in progress)? Is it about that charity that collects stuffed animals for homeless rats?
EE: At all times I usually have about four or five stories I am working on. ATM, I am editing Just An Echo which is the second book in The Playing God Series, which features Everest McAllister third year resident at NYU. He falls for his roommate and has quite the challenges facing him in life. (writing this book I kind of feel as though I am in med school. So much research…ha)
I’m also very happy to announce an untitled work featuring Jude and Indigo which is a story of a homeless singer who meets up with a band of misfits on their way to LA to become famous. It is a great hippie, road trip love story….with some MAJOR shockers in it.
Also, trying out a dark trilogy titled WICK (book one), WICK,E (book two), and WICKED (book three)….how do I explain this book without giving anything away, hmmm. Well, it features Eli Wick who was a lawyer working on a case of a serial killer. It has a love triangle and some major twisted plot lines.
Should I keep going? Okay, I will let you in on a secret… Heather Dahlgren and I just started writing Professor. Which features some of the same characters from Teacher. It is about Kerrie the best friend of Trish from Teacher. Kerrie is in college and having some attraction toward her professor.
EL: What made you write (a gun at the head, abducted into a writing cult, etc.)?
EE: I’ve always been writing. I have one of the biggest imaginations, and just couldn’t keep it inside any longer.
EL: So, why Florida?
EE: Why not? Have you been here? No, honestly my father was military, when he retired to Orlando, I just stayed. I got married had kids, and well the rest is history. Florida is home.
EL: If the author gods came down from the sky and offered you one of two choices which would you pick?
A. Your next book would be a huge bestselling hit and make you millions, but you would then be bit by a bat and turn into a bat like superhero who sleeps upside down and grows fangs – not really any superpowers but you sleep all day and never want to write anymore.
B. Your next book sells only 5 copies but one of those copies is bought by Oprah who exclaims she is going to put it in her book club, but then dies crossing the street telling no one but you.
EE: Doesn’t everyone want to be a superhero? Superhero for sure, I would never wish any harm on Oprah. And sleeping all day sounds like a dream come true!
EL: Last question. Have you ever thought of writing an in depth study on worms? I think with your talent you could make them a little less gross.
EE: I can’t say that I have, but I’m always willing to try anything once. I love challenging myself in my writing.
Ella Emerson lives in Florida with her husband and three wonderful children. When she isn't writing you can find her watching movies or playing games with her children. She loves to read, write and eat pizza. A true lover of the beach, she enjoys the sun, surf, sand and sea. She also is a huge fan of the cinema and enjoys crazy 80's chick flicks. She was raised a military brat, and has seen her fair share of the world. She loves using her own experiences and turning them into lovely romantic tales.
In high school she discovered her love for reading, and even had one of her poems published in a national magazine. She continues to read, write, review and hopefully she can become an inspiration to her own children, as well as others.
